A Dream Last Night

A Dream Last Night

I had a dream, and someone spoke,
I heard the words, then I awoke.

At half past three, still in my bed,
“Read Romans 12” is what he said.

I just recalled that single phrase,
The rest obscured, now just a haze.

I lay back down, the message heard,
Awoke refreshed and read the Word.

I don’t recall a dream before
With just one phrase, and little more.

I know those words were meant for me,
Perhaps they’re words you too should see.

That chapter’s packed with words of life
For times when we are facing strife.

Along with me, I think you’ll find
The words transform, renew your mind.

I pray that every word you read
Will fill your heart with what you need.

Inauguration Day

January 20, 2021

On this Inauguration Day
I lift our nation up and pray.

I pray as leaders lift a hand,
And pledge allegiance to our land,

That love of country fills their heart.
We’re so divided, torn apart,

I pray we truly can unite,
And find a way to end the fight.

I pray our nation soon can heal,
Express, in love, the way we feel.

Instead of tearing others down,
I pray we find some common ground.

I pray our leaders find a way
To show respect in what they say.

I lift our leaders up in prayer.
I place our nation in Your care.

I lift our leaders up to You.
“In God we trust,” I pray it’s true.

Strength in Prayer

January 21, 2021

I’m here with You to read and pray,
Spend time with You to start my day.

I read of Your abundant love,
Your Holy Spirit from above.

I know Your love, Your tender touch,
These quiet times that mean so much.

I give You praise in quiet prayer.
You fill my soul with words to share.

Lord You’re in charge, You’re in control,
I trust You with my life, my soul.

I pray for those this day in need.
On their behalf dear Lord, I plead.

I pray for leaders of our land,
Lord give them strength, a steady hand.

I thank You Lord for time with You,
To read Your Word, to learn what’s true.

I pray that You will train my ear,
Discern the truth in all I hear.

Lord You’re the one who keeps me strong,
The melody behind my song.

Search My Soul

January 18, 2021

Lord search my soul, reach deep inside,
Reveal what’s hidden by my pride.

I’m ready Lord to have a look.
You are the author of my book.

Let’s read the chapters of my past,
Write in the margins things that last,

Make note of any lessons learned.
Read every page, leave none unturned.

Help me to see Your point of view
That I may learn and see what’s true.

Lord show me things that hold me down,
Highlight the gems that make a crown.

Reveal the locks, insert the key,
Remove my chains, Lord set me free.

Help me each day to right a wrong,
And lift You up each day in song.

East Texas Roots

January 17, 2021

I have fond mem’ries of my past,
Those small-town roots I pray will last.

Those piney woods gave me a start.
East Texas lingers in my heart.

We used to hang out on the square,
A gentle peace hung in the air.

Men tip their hat and ladies smile,
Invite you in to stay a while.

The folks reach out to lend a hand,
Lift others up and help them stand.

If someone’s hungry they are fed,
There’s always beans with sweet cornbread.

It’s likely much the same today,
That heart of gold won’t fade away.

I’m still a small-town boy inside.
Those pine tree roots have never died.

Leave It

January 16, 2020

Yesterday came with a breeze,
The patio all strewn with leaves.

Miss Lucy learned a brand-new phrase.
She’ll now hear “leave it” many days.

She found that leaves were fun to chase,
But in her mouth, a bitter taste.

We all could use this new command,
This “leave it” phrase, throughout the land.

Sometimes it seems we’re back in school,
Still need to learn the golden rule.

It matters what we do or say
Whenever we’re at work or play.

I pray we leave the hate behind,
It’s not too late to train our mind.

The bitter taste invades our soul.
Restore us Lord and make us whole.

Friends

January 14, 2020

Time alone to start my day,
To talk to God, to read and pray,

Help give each day a brand-new start,
But we’re not made to live apart.

I value time I spend with friends.
It helps me see through different lens.

We each have traveled different roads.
We each have carried different loads.

We share our stories from the heart,
Remember them when we’re apart.

The points of view we each reflect
Are different, yet we show respect.

We laugh and joke, we tell a few,
They’re mostly old, but some are new.

It’s something that I recommend,
Invest the time to make a friend.

Paint Me Odd

January 13, 2021

Sometimes it seems I’m out of place,
It’s not my home, I’ve been displaced.

The words I heard when I was young
Have been subdued, no longer sung.

Where are the songs of love and peace?
Do they still live, or have they ceased?

I love old songs that soothe the soul,
That warm the heart when it’s grown cold.

I often yearn for good ole days,
We did our work, gave God the praise.

We loved our neighbors, common folk,
We showed respect each time we spoke.

The times were hard, we all pitched in,
And treated folks like next of kin.

I love my family, country, God,
If that seems strange, then paint me odd.

Respect

January 12, 2020

I hope that we can end the hate,
And show respect when we debate,

Present each different point of view,
And only share what’s real and true.

I long once more for evening news
That represents the different views,

Reports without a biased slant,
Just gives the facts without the rant,

When all the platforms on the net
Stop their attempts to choose and vet.

Suppressing posts that disagree
Will cause the masses soon to flee.

To disagree is not so wrong,
Sometimes we sing a different song.

I wish all sides could have a word,
Let everyone be fairly heard.

I try to give my point of view
With love to show respect for you.
